Statement:
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today marks a pivotal moment in our collective journey towards better men's health in Sierra Leone. We stand here to launch the Prostate Cancer SL Campaign, an initiative aimed at initiating crucial conversations, dispelling stigma, and reducing the psychosocial and economic impact of prostate cancer on families.
In Sierra Leone, where one in four black men aged 46 and above faces the risk of prostate cancer, the need for awareness and action cannot be overstated.
Our collective family history, especially those with a legacy of prostate, breast, and ovarian cancers, accentuates the urgency for dialogue and early detection.
As we embark on this campaign, let us acknowledge Cancer UK-Salone for their commendable initiative in prioritizing prostate cancer. Their dedication paves the way for a healthier future, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.
This campaign isn't just about statistics; it's about the fathers, brothers, uncles, and sons who are at the forefront of this battle. We urge women to stand beside their loved ones, supporting them in their fight against this disease. Prostate cancer is among the most treatable cancers if diagnosed and treated early, and together, we can make a significant impact on the well-being of our families and communities.
Let this launch be the catalyst for change, breaking down barriers of stigma, shame isolation and fostering a culture of open dialogue surrounding men's health. The Prostate Cancer SL Campaign is not just a campaign; it is a commitment to our shared well-being, and with your support, we can make strides towards a healthier and more resilient Sierra Leone.
